Crystal Bretz uses Character Creator 3 to model and animate a character
Crystal Bretz, modeler and texturer at Method Studios, tries our Reallusion’s Character Creator 3 for the first time. In the walkthrough, Crystal models Dmitry Skvortsov’s concept of CD Projekt Red’s Leo Bonhart character from The Witcher series. Starting from a Character Creator base mesh, she refines the body, face and clothing details using the GoZ bridge to work in ZBrush. Crystal also uses Substance Painter during the texturing process before posing the character using Character Creator 3’s animation tools.
A free trial of Character Creator 3 is available along with free trial assets to get started. The base edition, Character Creator 3.0 for iClone, is free for registered users of iClone 7. To export characters in OBJ or FBX format, users of the iClone edition will also need a separate add-on, 3DXChange 7, which is $199 for the Pro edition or $499 for the Pipeline edition.
The standalone edition, Character Creator 3.0 Pipeline, comes with the export functionality and extra tools built-in, and costs $199. This stand-alone version also includes powerful features like; GoZ, InstaLOD, Remesher, Polygon reduction, Daz 3D character import/export and a new automated skinning system for clothing. You can see a detailed feature comparison of the two editions here.
Reallusion has also released a new plugin edition of the Iray GPU renderer designed for use with either version of Character Creator, or with iClone itself. It’s available at $79.
