A Conversation with Gnomon Founder Alex Alvarez

Kick off the New Year with an exciting and inspirational livestream featuring the founder and president of Gnomon — School of Visual Effects, Games & Animation, Alex Alvarez. Gnomon Recruiter and livestream host Adam Hartel will be talking with Alex about his artistic journey, how he got started in 3D, and the founding of Gnomon.

Alex has spent over 20 years in the education field, building and contributing to a community of artists who are passionate about our industry. Viewers will get an inside look at what Alex values most about Gnomon and why top studios continue to hire Gnomon graduates. He’ll also discuss what excites him most about the future of the industry and how Gnomon will evolve alongside it.

Gnomon Founder

Alex is the Founder and President of Gnomon. After attending the Art Center College of Design and the University of Pennsylvania, Alex worked as an Applications Engineer for Alias|Wavefront. Alex has since dedicated the last 20 years of his career to educating students and professional artists around the world. His work has been published in industry magazines, websites, and books, in addition to teaching classes at several major trade conferences as well as on the Gnomon campus.

Alex continues to work on personal and professional projects, including creating over 30 instructional titles. He has also worked on blockbuster films such as Avatar, Star Trek, Green Lantern, Super 8, and Prometheus as a creature development artist.

As a Recruiter, Adam travels to high schools, community colleges, and trade shows to educate prospective students about Gnomon’s academic options and provide information about careers in the entertainment industry. With over two decades of experience working in nonprofit, Adam has used his skills in visual art, photography, and design to create socially conscious initiatives in collaboration with art students and professionals. He has lived and worked abroad in Norway and the Netherlands while traveling Europe as a community developer and public speaker. Adam holds a Bachelor of Arts from LIFE Pacific University.
