ArtStation Learning: Learn How to Create a Sci-Fi Environment in Substance Designer

Attention Substance users, we have a new and exciting Substance series by Javier Perez, in partnership with MSI.

Javier is currently a Senior Material Artist at Playstation VASG. He began his career by graduating from The Art Institute of California – San Diego in 2012. Since then, he has contributed to multiple AAA projects such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Lawbreakers, and Planetside 2. In his spare time, Javier is passionate about sharing his Substance Designer knowledge at various industry events and on ArtStation Learning.

In this 6-part series, Javier Perez will guide students on the philosophies and approaches of creating a Sci- Fi Hallway inside of Substance Designer. Javier will begin by showing the steps to create the height information for each of the 5 pieces that make up the hallway. He will then dive into techniques and workflows to efficiently take the height information and create the remaining texture maps that will be combined into final materials for endless procedural possibilities. Ultimately, the goal is for ArtStation Learning students to have an awesome environment piece by the end of the series!
