Blizzard Entertainment World of Warcraft Art Blast—Visual Development & Environments

World of Warcraft: Visual Development team

We are all excited here at Blizzard for the release of World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth and the positive reception it has received!  It is a product of the imagination, passion and dedication of many talented Horde and Alliance individuals we have at the studio.  A lot of work went into creating immersive worlds in WoW and I would like to share some of the Visual Development art that went into imagining how these locations looked like in Battle for Azeroth.

Over the course of this week we’ve showcased work from each art discipline.  Please look for artwork released on the following dates:

Mon (9/10) – Dungeon Environment Art

Tues (9/11) – Character Art

Weds (9/12) – FX and Animation

Thurs (9/13) – Prop Art and Level Design

Fri (9/14) – Visual Development/Concept Art and World Environment Art

The Artists and Designers put a lot of their talent, attention to detail, and creativity into Battle for Azeroth. We hope you enjoy the work!

World of Warcraft: World Environment team

Today’s art blast is focused on the environment art of Battle for Azeroth. The continents of Kul Tiras and Zandalar are a testament to the love and care that our Artists and Designers put into my favorite character in the game, the world of Azeroth. Amongst the images shared in this art blast you will find a selection of concepts, models and textures handpicked by the Artists themselves. The images represent just a small portion of the work that went into creating the natural environments for the primordial land of Zandalar and the island nation of the seafaring Kul Tiran’s. I hope you enjoy the art of World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth as much as we enjoyed creating it.

World of Warcraft Student Art Contest

The World of Warcraft Student Art Contest was created to give students who are excited about creating stylized, hand-painted game art an outlet. It has helped many Artists start their careers here on the Warcraft team at Blizzard and across the games industry.

We wanted to create something as an overview of the contest and the impact it has had and can have on student artists. The contest runs throughout the fall. For more information go to www.blizzard.com/students.

Enjoy the video and we look forward to seeing your entry in the contest.
