Blizzard Entertainment World of Warcraft Art Blast—Level Design & Props
World of Warcraft: Prop Art team
Prop Art team
With every expansion for World of Warcraft comes new challenges for our Artists. Keeping the art grounded in the classic look and feel of Warcraft while introducing new and fresh ideas is certainly no easy task.
Today, we are excited to bring you the art of the prop team on World of Warcraft. The job of the Prop Artist is to create art to support every culture in the Warcraft Universe. From the furniture found inside taverns, giant war siege towers found on the battlefield, to interactives on bosses or quests — our job as Prop Artists always remains challenging.
It is always so easy to forget how much work is put into every expansion until you log into Azeroth and walk around. At every corner, you see amazing artwork from artists across our team; each piece passionately handcrafted to fit a culture or space within the world. I am humbled to be working alongside these extraordinarily talented artists and hope you enjoy viewing our work for Battle for Azeroth!
Over the course of this week we will be showcasing work from each art discipline. Please look for artwork released on the following dates:
Mon (9/10) – Dungeon Environment Art
Weds (9/12) – FX and Animation
Thurs (9/13) – Prop Art and Level Design
Fri (9/14) – Visual Development/Concept Art and World Environment Art
The Artists and Designers put a lot of their talent, attention to detail, and creativity into Battle for Azeroth. We hope you enjoy the work!

World of Warcraft: Level Design team
Level design is the link between art and design. Level designers are responsible for all the open world creation, outdoor dungeons, islands and raids. They sculpt and paint terrain, hand place every prop, building and point lights.
Think of the Level Designer as the conductor of a mighty symphony! It is their job to compose these great art assets, design ideas and terrain, into a story that guides the player. Level design is how we interpret and translate concepts into a world that tells a story.
Battle for Azeroth has more details and fidelity than ever before. Not just of props and art, but in depth of story and game play. When you look at these screen shots, you really get a sense of the creative expression that has dominated this expansion. We have brought together many disciplines, including art, music and cinematics, into a seamless storytelling experience.
Please enjoy the art of level design!

World of Warcraft Student Art Contest
The World of Warcraft Student Art Contest was created to give students who are excited about creating stylized, hand-painted game art an outlet. It has helped many Artists start their careers here on the Warcraft team at Blizzard and across the games industry.
We wanted to create something as an overview of the contest and the impact it has had and can have on student artists. The contest runs throughout the fall. For more information go to www.blizzard.com/students.
Enjoy the video and we look forward to seeing your entry in the contest.
