XDS20 Adapt Evolves into Virtual: What to Expect
Established in 2013, External Development Summit (XDS), is the only annual, international games industry event with a primary focus on external development for art, animation, audio, software engineering, QA and localization. For the past 7 years, XDS has marked milestones year after year with hundreds of high-caliber attendees representing over 45 countries, four consecutively sold-out events with a near 50/50 split between developers and service providers, and several returning and new sponsors and exhibitors. XDS is a niche, professionals-only event.
For its 8th year, XDS has adapted its format into a fully virtual experience in order to keep its community safe. Its organizers continue to plan the conference with features that underline the event’s intention of furthering external development practices through knowledge sharing and relationship building.

While other events have struggled to adjust to the realities of a virtual medium, XDS organizers have had the benefit of time to get it right. XDS Connect, Proprietary Event Application
The best features of XDS Connect have been retrofitted to become XDS20 Adapt’s full-fledged virtual event application:
- What’s On – Displays upcoming sessions that day, and what’s playing live, so attendees don’t miss a beat over four action-packed days
- Local Time Zone – Allows attendees to enter their time zone and schedule sessions and meetings accordingly to avoid confusion
- Community Chat – See what other attendees are up to before and during XDS. Attendees can share their own captioned photos and video while also commenting and liking posts
- Exhibitor Info – Provides all the information for attendees about XDS20 Adapt exhibitors, including links to the virtual 3D exhibit booths

Since going on sale in early July, the allocated number of passes for Service Providers have sold out. There is a cap placed on this number in order to maintain a healthy ratio of Service Providers to Developers/Publishers.
