Visual Arts and Animation at GDC 2017

Artists and animators, GDC is filled with compelling content just for you. Summits, Tutorials & Bootcamps take place during the first two days of GDC 2017 (Monday and Tuesday, February 27-28) and include the Art Direction Bootcamp and Animation Bootcamp on Monday as well as the Visual Effects Bootcamp and Technical Artist Bootcamp on Tuesday. Hear leading artists discuss what really matters in art and how to build or support an artistic vision in the Art Direction Bootcamp with sessions that include Creating a Believable Hero and The Art of Preproduction.

Get together with experienced and specialized game animators to better grasp what’s next in the industry. Animation Bootcamp talks include Animating ‘Uncharted 4’: Workflow and Prototyping, The First Person Animation of ‘Overwatch’ and Pushing Boundaries: Animating Expansion Packs for the ‘Witcher 3 Wild Hunt’.

Learn best practices and innovative approaches at the Visual Effects Bootcamp with sessions which include How to Go from Good to Great and Like a Mace to the Face: Leaving the Battlefield to Go It Alone.

The Visual Arts track encompasses all the aforementioned bootcamps and more with artist sessions in GDC Main Conference (March 1-3). Visual Track sessions in GDC Main include Motion Warping in ‘Gears of War 4’: Doing More with Less, Future of Art Production in Games and Physics Animation in ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’

Outside of session content, there is the new ART BOSS showcase by GDC and iam8bit featuring artwork created during game production including pre-production concept art, production art, and in-game assets. Twelve finalists have been selected including art from the game ‘Halo 5’ entitled “Tsunami Station” by artist, Gustavo Mendonca.  All of the pieces along with a photo and biography of each artist will be presented at GDC in the lower lobby of North Hall.
