Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed Mirage Art Blast

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the franchise, we decided to go back to the Middle East, where it all started, with a story focused on the Hidden Ones. That is why we chose Baghdad as the main location of the game. Medieval Baghdad is a “lost city”, which was destroyed by the Mongols during their conquest of the Middle East. Bringing the “City of Peace” back to life with the few existing historical sources has been a fantastic challenge for the art team, and we’ve tackled this challenge with the help of historians, experts, and Middle Eastern consultants.
Recreating this Golden Age has been at the heart of Mirage’s production. It wouldn’t have been possible without all the incredible talents of Ubisoft Artists. We gathered several studios and together, we worked really hard to give life to this fascinating lost world. I am so proud of Ubisoft’s artists and what they have achieved; it is the result of the meticulous work of passionate people that has led to the creation of one of the most fascinating and beautiful worlds and characters of the franchise.
Our ambition was to create a huge city full of small stylistic and iconic details and life: busy streets and quiet rooftops, light and dust in the atmosphere, sun-baked mud bricks, and the most exquisite glazed arabesque paintings on walls and domes.
The world of Mirage is a world of brutal contrasts that showcases the Abbasid’s art and architectural style coexisting with modest housings made of mud bricks and adobe.
Bringing back this lost world was also a way for me to rediscover long-lost childhood memories. I grew up on the other side of the Tigris River, so the Art Direction of Mirage was a very intimate and emotional journey for me. It really helped me feel what was right or wrong in our task to make an authentic and believable experience. This emotional gut feeling led to the decision of inviting historians and experts to explore our streets and help us push every envelope we could.
On every aspect of this world, our dedicated artists accomplished wonders. They filled Baghdad, Anbar, Alamut, the deserts, marshes, and palm tree groves with art, passion, and dedication to bring excitement, authenticity, and emotions to the players. This amazing amount of art is now yours to enjoy. This world is now yours to explore.
