Squanch Games High On Life 2 Art Blast

Hey! So you just bought High On Life 2, huh? That’s so sick. You’re a genius for real.

Now you drop into Circuit Arcadia for your first mission. You hop on your skateboard. You’re grinding, popping heads, doing your thing, and then… hey. What’s that? Is that a movie theater? I wonder what’s inside.

So you head in. You talk to some weird alien mom in the lobby about her bad parenting. Then you notice something behind her. Is that… an old game cartridge? Suddenly you’re playing B.O.B. and Bible Adventures and god knows what else we paid licensing fees for.

And then you stop and head into the theater. There’s an actual movie playing. We paid for those, too. It’s Spookies. You can just sit there and watch it. Except there’s some guys talking over you – you think you recognize their voices, maybe… yeah… yeah. That’s the Red Letter Media guys. Damn. Hell yeah. That’s pretty cool.

You watch a bit and then decide you wanna get back to the game – you’re supposed to be killing some big pharma executive or something, right? Saving your sister? Something important.

But now you also kinda just wanna poke around a bit. They keep hiding cool shit everywhere. Why did they spend so much time building out a fake stand-up comedy club where you can actually pick and choose which jokes to tell? What’s with this escape room? Every nook and cranny has some weird rewarding passion project tucked away in it.

And that’s how I’d describe the development of High on Life 2.

I’ve learned that if you let passionate, creative people chase the things they’re excited about, they will always surprise you. This team was constantly blowing me away. High on Life 2 is full of moments that don’t need to be there – that other studios wouldn’t ALLOW to be there. Weird jokes, tiny details, ridiculous characters, and entire systems most players will probably never see. But somebody cared enough to make them, and that’s what makes this game truly special.

Please enjoy this tiny sampling of the absolutely massive amount of work this team poured their hearts into – and seriously, thank you thank you thank you!

This next bit is a message to the team. Seriously, don’t read it if you’re not on the team! Close your eyes! Alright:

We couldn’t make these dumbass games without every single person at the studio. I know I say it all the time, but I mean it: I love you guys, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve made together, and I truly love this game. This thing is overflowing with your ideas, your jokes, your talent, your weird little details, and all the things you cared enough about to make way better than they ever deserved to be.

I bet you read this anyway even if you’re not on the team. Well, you’re in trouble now. We have your address and we’re SWATTING you. Get ready.
