Taking on the Challenge
When asked why they decided to take on an ArtStation Challenge, Adam, DENIS, and Alizé shared that they saw Challenge participation as a fun opportunity for self-improvement:
Adam: I joined the Challenge because I’ve always been interested in participating after seeing the results of previous Challenges. I thought this would be a fun chance to improve my skills in prop design and meet new artists along the way!
DENIS: I participated in the competition because I love the atmosphere of self-development, creativity, and incredible inspiration from the other participants and the Challenge process!
Alizé: I saw it as a super fun and challenging way to create a personal project in a limited amount of time.

Behind the Submissions
The sky’s the limit when it comes to making an ArtStation Challenge submission! The three Prop Design winners all had a unique twist on this year’s Challenge prompt:
Adam: I got inspired by the fable “The Bear and the Bees” and decided it’d be fun to make my own story with it. I thought it would be interesting to pitch bears and bees against each other in an exaggerated conflict over honey.
DENIS: I thought a world where rabbits take over and start bowing to carrots everywhere might be funny.
Alizé: I got inspired a lot by Mongolian culture and also by the Rito people from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Making Memorable Personal Projects
With the help of a theme and structured time limit, ArtStation Challenges can be a valuable personal project-making experience:
Adam: It was different and a lot of fun to work under a set brief and to build a theme for my designs from it, which isn’t always the case with personal work. It was also exciting to experiment with new methods & techniques I wasn’t very used to in order to meet the challenge deadlines.
DENIS: The creation process was similar to my usual pipeline, but with the only difference being I had no idea how everything would look in the end.
Alizé: It was different but in a good way; like for instance, having restrictions and a particular theme actually helped me to brainstorm and gather ideas, rather than starting a whole project from scratch.

Advice for Future Challengers
Our winners were keen to share their advice (and excitement) about the ArtStation Challenge experience:
Adam: Really make use of the Challenge as a chance to learn from other fantastic artists and to push your work.
DENIS: Have fun with the process! Go for it! Do not be afraid to make a mistake; this leads to victory! And always, always look at references.
Alizé: Creating a universe with its own rules and limits allows you to be more precise about ideas and push them further. And don’t forget to have fun too!
