If you’re in LA on Saturday 25 July, check out Anatomy Lab: Designing Creatures for Film – a free event at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects promising an afternoon of anatomy tips and tricks.

The event kicks off with a session on animal anatomy from sculptor Steve Lord, whose client list ranges from Rhythm & Hues and Oddworld Inhabitants to McFarlane Toys.

Afterwards, Avengers and Hunger Games concept artist Ian Joyner will discuss concepting for films, walking through the creation of a bird-like creature, including modeling plumage.

The live event runs from 12-4pm at Gnomon’s campus in Hollywood. Entry is free, but you’ll need to register online in advance, and seating is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

And if you can’t make it in person, don’t despair: Gnomon will also be livestreaming the event online.
