The Gnomon Workshop has released Illustration From Imagination: a new tutorial by illustrator Cameron Scott Davis walking through the creation of his 2D image Blood Eels of the Siren’s Ossuary.

Formerly lead character designer on many of Neversoft’s Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk games, Cameron also worked at DreamWorks Animation, and is now developing his own IP, Sleepwalker.

In the tutorial, which runs for just under two and a half hours, Cameron builds up the image in Photoshop, beginning from a scanned pencil sketch. You can see the result in his ArtStation gallery.

Along the way, Cameron discusses key issues like creating emotional appeal through composition, and provides his career tips for young artists hoping to break into the industry.

Illustration From Imagination is available from Gnomon’s online store. It costs $49.
